I'm participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) this year and I discovered a nifty way to cure writer's block.
Every time i get stuck, I just throw in a random interlude that has nothing to do with the story, delete it, and keep writing. It helps when I can just have fun with it, and helps relieve my own tension when I'm writing a particularly difficult or serious scene.
So, without further ado, here are a couple of interludes I've used so far.
Writer's block interlude #1: Suddenly, out of nowhere, a shark jumped out of the water and swallowed Trent whole! Abigail jumped up, grabbed a knife out of the canoe, and dived into the water after it. She swam toward the menacing shark and plunged the knife into its belly, killing it, and freeing Trent. They swam back to the surface and got back into the boat.
Writer's block interlude #2: Abigail woke the next morning to the sound of a zombie crashing into her room. She screamed, what else would she do? But then she realized how slowly the zombie was shambling toward her. She managed to step around him while he took a lumbering swing at her, and walked out into the hall. She reached into the hall closet and pulled out the rifle she kept there in case of situations like this one. She went back into her room while the zombie was still trying to slowly turn around and catch up to her. She took aim at his head and fired. The zombie’s head exploded all over her room. “Crap,” she said, “Now I have to clean all this up.”
No, these won't actually end up in the story, and actually have nothing to do with the story itself, but it's fun and reminds me of way back when my friends and I would sit at a computer, taking turns writing a completely random and nonsensical story, and having fun with it while we were at it.

I'm Back
I'm back home. The wedding was nice but wtf was up with the vows? You'd never hear me say the words "I will respect you as my authority," hell no. Keep that stuff in the bedroom, people, k?

The Sunday Site: RESURCH+ORG
I actually heard about this website a little while back, but I wasn't sure what to talk about this time around so I decided to share one of my favorite skeptical resources, RESURCH+ORG.
This website contains tons of links to skeptical and scientific blogs, as well as links to books, games, and writing resources. True to it's name, it's the perfect resource for those needing to research a skeptical topic, be it for a blog, debate, or good old fashioned pwnage. Since I first found this page, the number of resources listed has almost doubled, and it doesn't look to be slowing anytime soon.
In other news, I've gotten back into reading fanfiction again. and it seems I've developed an addiction to remus/sirius slash. (Even the crappiest stories make me go "awww, it's so... perfect!) They are definitely my personal OTP (One True Pairing).
Here's one I happen to like quite a bit- CLICK ME!.
Well, that's all for the moment. I'm not sure I'll get around to posting much in the next few days, my roommate has broken her back and just got out of surgery a few hours ago. So there's lots of activity in my house right now with her family staying here, and there's a lot of worry all around because the doctors said she may have lost some function in her left leg. Also, I'm leaving town on wednesday to go to my cousin's wedding, and I'm not getting back until next monday, so I might not post in that time and there won't be a sunday site next week. I'll try and make it a good one the week after to make up for it though!
Also, if you read my blog, PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS! I don't know if anyone's reading this if you don't, and I'd love some feedback so I can make the blog better!

Are you a Browncoat?
I'm a little pissed off.
OK, scratch that, I'm a lot pissed off.
I'm pissed off for two reasons. First, why hadn't I heard of or seen Firefly until recently, and second what idiot made the decision to cancel it after 14 episodes?
OK, I know I'm pretty late to the game on this. I mean the show is from 2002 and the movie came out in 2005 and I didn't watch a single episode of the show until this past week. But as I said, that's one of the reasons I'm ticked off.
But after watching all 14 episodes in a row on Hulu, I'm wondering who thought it was a good idea to cancel it just as it was getting really interesting.
I mean, WTF!?!?!?
Now I'm jonesing for more and wondering how to get my hands on the Serenity movie, seeing as I can't order it offline, I don't rent movies, and I don't think there are any video stores nearby that keep it stocked.
I've fallen in love with the show so quickly, I've been wading through pretty crappy fan fiction just to try and get my fix. (speaking of fanfic, Mal/River? srsly?).
But then again, I'm still flying.
It really doesn't help that this show has sent me into full on geek mode when I'm already in pretty serious geek mode over the new Harry Potter movie coming out in six days.
Oh yeah, and speaking of Harry Potter, I did a Harry Potter movie marathon and watched all 5 of the movies to get ready for the new one. Then I decided to go back and read the books again since it's been a while. (a few years at least since I read the first book, and the only time I read the last one was when it came out.) It's annoying going back to reading the books and remembering everything they changed for the movies. I'm so mad at myself for forgetting about Peeves. I mean, who can forget Peeves? Hollywood and me apparently.

New Name
Decided to change the name of the blog from For the Sake of Argument to Skeptic Geek, since my last two posts haven't exactly been skeptical, but plenty geeky.
